Kelvin D. King
Kelvin D. King is the founder of K.D.K Saving Our Youth Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. Kelvin was born in Miami, Florida and was raised in Philadelphia, PA. He is a former ball boy for the National Basketball Association team, the Philadelphia 76ers and was the team ball boy when the 76ers won the 1983 N.B.A championship.
Kelvin is also a former member of the Philadelphia Academy All-Boys Choir that sung contemporary and classical music around the world. Kelvin was a former star high school basketball player in Miami,Fl at Miami Brito Private High School. Where he received numerous basketball honors and awards. Kelvin was heavily recruited by numerous universities such as the University of Miami, Temple University, St.Joseph University and Miami-Dade North Junior College.
In 1989, Kelvin moved to Atlanta, GA and started working in the music industry. He worked with rap artists MC Shy-D, DJ SMURF, AKA MR COLIPARK , super producer Adrian “Dj Toomp” Davis, KILO ALI, BIG CHILL, and later became president of A&R for Upfront Megatainment. While at Upfront, he worked with Marvin “Marvelous” Mcyintre, Kwan “K.P.” Prather, Dallas Austin,Henry “Noonie” Lee, Kevin Wales, music mogul Darrick Devyne Stephens, rap superstar Akon, grammy award singer Monica and became best friends with super producer Jamal “Polow Da Don” Jones.
Kelvin constantly worked at recreational centers in the Atlanta inner city with our youth, using music and sports as a way to keep them out of the streets. After facing numerous obstacles and hurdles, Kelvin then decided to start Vi-king Megatainment LLC and K.D.K. Saving Our Youth INC in Atlanta, GA. He wanted to reach back into the community by using his previous involvement in athletics and music to keep our youth in school.
Kelvin has recruited various corporate execs, professionals, music artists, celebrities, and professional & college athletes to go to schools, mentoring programs, and youth centers to speak to kids about issues such as gun violence, sexual abstinence, Aids and HIV awareness, bullying, teen pregnancy, education, sports, the judicial system, and staying in school . Kelvin’s philosophy is as follows: If out of 1000 kids that we talk to at our programs, just one kid listens and is motivated in a positive way to stay in school and graduate, then that’s one less kid that will drop out of school, end up in a gang, prison, or fall victim to the negative cracks in our society.
Kelvin a single father and also the godson of Turquoise Erving.
